Self-driving cars are getting more and more advanced, and some data shows that certain models are now safer than humans. However, the perception of a lack of control in emergency situations still has many people expressing their understandable doubts.

New breakthroughs in battery tech and next-generation ports are making ultra-fast charging times a far more widespread reality. Some companies claim their new tech could charge an EV almost fully in just five minutes — finally competing with the time it takes to fill a gas tank.

The Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution is a gas-powered hypercar that can exceed 250 miles per hour and achieve a horsepower of over 1,800. Meanwhile, the all-electric Lotus Evija has a target horsepower rating of over 2,000, and Lotus says it should reach 186 miles per hour in just 9.2 seconds.

The 2025 Kia Niro Hybrid is a hybrid SUV starting at under $29,000, and it can reportedly get 33 miles of all-electric driving per charge. Meanwhile, the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid starts at just over $42,000 and gets a reported 38 miles of all-electric driving per charge.

The TELO MT1 is a compact truck (about as long as a MINI Cooper) with an estimated 500 horsepower and 350 miles of range — it’s available to reserve now. Meanwhile, the new truck from startup LandX — which doesn’t have an official name yet — comes with a lot of unknowns, including whether it will ever actually be available to buy.

Thanks to advancements in battery technology — some coming from surprising places, like new startups, traditional car brands, and the world of Formula 1 — it’s becoming increasingly plausible that we’ll soon have access to multiple EVs that can travel over 600 miles on a single charge.
