Hybrids and EVs both offer major benefits, but the difference depends on your location, your life situation, and an array of other factors.

EVs have been growing in mainstream popularity, but EV batteries still have a ways to go before being a perfect replacement for gas engines. Luckily, batteries are slowly evolving to tackle some of these underlying problems.

The 2025 Rivian R1T maxes out with 420 miles per charge in the longest-range trims — with different trims costing from more than $70,000 to over $100,000. Meanwhile, the 2025 Lucid Air Grand Touring has a reported range of over 500 miles per charge and a sticker price of over $110,000 new.

The Cadillac Celestiq costs over $300,000 new, and features everything from a customizable “smart glass” roof to choreographed headlight sequences. Meanwhile, the Rolls-Royce Spectre will cost you upwards of $400,000 and features a computer-controlled suspension system that the carmaker compares to a “magic carpet ride.”

The Honda 0 Series Saloon is due out in 2026 and comes with a tantalizing estimated price tag of just $50,000. Meanwhile, the BMW Neue Klasse is currently just a concept car but features all kinds of high-tech features — including a panoramic driving display.

At best, most fast EV chargers still take around 20 to 25 minutes for a near-full charge. But new breakthroughs are promising to shorten that time substantially — including one battery company that claims it can achieve nearly 200 miles of range in just five minutes.

The 2025 Chevy Equinox EV is a compact SUV starting at just under $34,000 new (excluding some fees) and has a range of up to 319 miles. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 starts at $42,500 and has a base range of 245 miles, with a longer-range option getting 318 miles. Plus, it can charge to 80% in around 20 minutes.

The long-awaited Tesla Roadster is finally expected to arrive sometime in the next year or so, promising a mysterious (but high) price tag and a 0 to 60 time that’s said to be at least under two seconds — maybe faster. Meanwhile, the 2025 Recon EV is expected to be more powerful than some of Jeep’s other models, with an expected price of around $60,000.

Whether it’s self-driving taxis or increased autonomous features from brands like Tesla, it’s becoming easier to envision a reality where city streets are filled with autonomous vehicles — but it’s not a thought that everyone’s excited about.
